Introduced in the early 1960's, the Kay Value Leader series was a budget line of electric guitars manufactured in Chicago for various wholesalers. This 1961 Kay Value Leader K1962 is a fantastic example of a two pickup variation of the model. The body features a semi hollow design without 'F' holes, designed to minimise feedback, and a Florentine cutaway. These signature of these particular models was the metal scratch plate, often found only on the treble side, although this example features a corresponding bass side guard. The neck is chunky but still very playable, and the guitar is fitted with a pair of Kay made 'Pancake' single coil pickups, warm sound and perfect for gritty blues or slide playing.
This guitar is in very good condition, with minor signs of play wear and ageing to the metal and plastic parts. This guitar appears all original, although the rosewood saddle may be a replacement. This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
