First introduced in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 was initially introduced as a model to bridge the gap between the companies arch top heritage and the growing popularity of their solid body guitars. The ES-335 has remained a flagship model in the Gibson catalog ever since, and is arguably one of the most recognisable guitars in music, having been played by countless musicians for the last 60+ years. This 1961 ES-335 is an exceptional example of an early '60s, dot inlay version of the model - the most desirable configuration for the majority of players and collectors.

Constructed from a Maple ply body and solid Maple centre block with Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard, this 1961 ES-335 features a clean set of PAF humbuckers, untouched and un-tampered with, with all the clarity and sustain you would expect from these famed pickups. This particular guitar has the sort of tonal versatility only found with the best P.A.F's, capable of mellower, bluesy clean tones with plenty of definition across the strings, and a sweet saturation and presence through a driven tube amp. The neck is particularly comfortable to play, with the slimmer, shallower neck shape introduced in 1960 with a distinctly less chunky feel than its late '50s counterparts.

The pickups and electronics are original and are fully functional, with the original pots showing readable codes of 134 6103, dating them to the 3rd week of 1961. The nickel plated tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece are correct and working as they should, as are the original chrome topped reflector control knobs and three position switch, although the switch tip is non original. This guitar is repair and refinish free, with the original sunburst lacquer showing only minimal play wear on the body, with some light patina and fine checking to rear of the neck and front of the headstock. The short pickguard is correct for the period, and the Kluson tuners are a later '60s spec set of 'double line' versions, with the original tuners retained in the case.

This guitar is in excellent condition, and includes its original yellow lined Gibson case.

As with all vintage instruments, this 1961 Gibson ES-335 has been given a full service and appraisal by the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
