Japanese-made guitars from the 1970s ‘lawsuit’ era have developed a devoted cult following among both players and collectors. Throughout the decade, Japanese manufacturers outpaced their US counterparts by producing instruments that matched—or even surpassed—them in quality, while paying little attention to copyright constraints. As a result, these ‘lawsuit’ era guitars offer an excellent opportunity to own a high-quality vintage instrument without the hefty price tag or rarity of a Gibson or Fender equivalent.
This 1960s Terada FW943 dreadbought, lovingly christened the 'Bird of Paradise' in store, is a perfect example, combining excellent tone, playability and build quality with more than a passing resemblance to a Gibson Dove or Hummingbird. Manufactured in Nagoya, Japan by Terada, this guitar features a nicely aged spruce top along with vibrant orange stained maple back and sides, enhanced by a glossy finish and multi-ply binding, provide exactly the kind of vintage, big body acoustic tone you would expect.
The real talking point with this Terada is the rather ornate pickguard, featuring a tropical blue bird of some variety. Elsewhere, this guitar features split diamond pearloid position markers, and a rosewood bridge with adjustable tune-o-matic style saddle, and a set of open gear pearl button tuners.
As with all our vintage instruments, this guitar has been given a thorough service by the Vintage Instrument Workshop and is guaranteed for 1 years in line with our vintage instrument warranty. Get an additional 3 years workshop warranty cover with the No.Tom Guitars Extended Warranty.
