Credited with manufacturing the first electric guitar, the importance of Rickenbacker can be easily overlooked, with their influence on the competing electric guitar brands of the 1950s and 60s being undeniable. The 365 Capri was one of a range of Electro Spanish guitars designed by luthier Roger Rossmeisl, renowned for his work with both Rickenbacker and Fender. These 300 series guitars encompassed a range of semi acoustic instruments, and went on to be popular throughout the 1960's, being used by the Beatles, the Who and Jefferson Airplane among many others.
This 1960 Rickenbacker 365 Capri is an exceptional and early example of the model. The 'old style' body features a square edge, 2 1/2" thick design that is only found on models from '58 to '60. The body is fitted with a pair of 'Toaster' pickups that are most associated with the bright, jangly sound of vintage Rickenbacker guitars. The lacquered Rosewood neck has a low profile neck that is comfortable to play, and is finished with the shark fin pearloid fret inlays only found on these deluxe models, along with the cat-eye sound holes. Other features include single line Kluson tuners, a gold pick guard and headstock logo, Kauffman Vibrola tailpiece, and vintage 'TV' style control knobs. This guitar is finished in a bright Fireglo lacquer, with the darker edges fading out slightly over time on the front of the body. This model also the first production year to feature the stereo 'Rick-O-Sound' output as an option.
This guitar is in excellent all original condition, with only minimal signs of play wear to the finish for a guitar of its age. It also includes its original case. This guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
