Manufactured by Valco in one form or another since 1955, the Silvertone Artist is one of the lesser seen models from the Sears Roebuck house brand. Very similar guitars were marketed under both the Supro Belmont and Supro Rhythm Tone moniker, along with the equally rare Oahu solid body models, with each having the classic Valco bluesy tone and unique mid-century style in common.
This 1958 Silvertone Artist is a wonderful example of the model, with a sleek black finish, ornate pickguard with Silvertone decal, and the lesser spotted brass Silvertone 'Stick Pin' headstock logo. The Artist model typically would have featured a single humbucker sized overwound single coil pickup in the neck position, although the previous owner of this guitar somehow managed to source another Valco made pickup, and had it fitted in the bridge position on this guitar. As such, the top mounted jack input has been replaced with a pickup selector switch, with a new jack input fitted on the lower bout of the guitar. This guitar also includes its original case in excellent condition.
