Introduced in 1932, the Martin D-18 his the original working musicians dreadnought acoustic guitar, and was the entry point of the Martin dreadnought range for a number of years. With a more reserved look than the top of the line Martin models, the D-18 has prevailed for almost 100 years on nothing but unmatched tone, playability and versatility.

This example from 1958 is perfect summation of what makes D-18's from this period so special. The particular model has all the characteristic balance body you would expect from a post war D-18, with a depth of tone and resonance that is among the best we have heard from this period. As is standard for the model, the pairing of a Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides covers a lot of tonal ground, and is at home with a wide variety of playing styles.

This guitar features the traditional rosewood belly down bridge, tortoiseshell pick guard, and tortoiseshell body binding. Although not as lightly built as their scallop or taper braced counterparts from the 1940's, this D-18 still has a the perfect naturally resonant, airy sound while retaining plenty of low end that only comes with a well played vintage acoustic.

This guitar is in very good condition, with some obvious signs of play wear through the lacquer around the sound hole, clearing having been well played and enjoyed for the majority of it's life! The guitar has benefitted from a previous neck reset, and the original rosewood bridge has been repaired at some point in the guitars life, with the area around the saddle looking to have been replaced with a newer piece of wood. The original sealed back Kluson tuners are present and correct, and both the original maple bridge plate and braces are present and correct, and in good condition. This guitar also includes a modern Martin hard case.

As with all our vintage instruments, this guitar has been given a thorough service & setup by the Vintage Instrument Workshop and is guaranteed for 3 years in line with our vintage instrument warranty.
