The Gibson ES-175 was introduced in 1949 as the companies mid level electric arch top, as a more affordable option to the high end L5 models, and remained the companies flagship deep body electric arch top for 70 years. This model from 1956 is one of the holy grails of Gibson jazz guitars, from the companies most revered electric guitar production period. Constructed from a carved Maple top with Maple back and sides, the ES-175 was the first Gibson model to feature the Florentine cutaway design.
The fingerboard features split parallelogram inlays but has been re-fretted to a high standard at some point in its life. The headstock features the classic Gibson crown peg head inlay and original tuners.
The guitar has had a replaced neck pickup but the bridge pickup is its original '56 - although the cover has been changed to likely match the replacement, when it was done. We imagine this was all done at the same time that the additional switch was added and the vol + tone pots were replaced; CTS 1965 volume, Centralab 1965 Tone. The bridge has also been replaced at some point in its life.
Original finish in good condition with little signs of wear and checking however there has been some minor touchups on the front of the instrument that stand out where the black has faded over the years.
This guitar features all the charm associated with this period, including the depth, clarity and definition you expect to hear from 50's Gibson arch-tops.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
