1949 Rickenbacker SD-6 Lapsteel

Rickenbacker have always had a rich heritage in steel guitar as a company, with many of their models synonymous with the steel guitar boom of the '30s that would arrive on the California coast and take the rest of the USA by storm for a few short years prior to WW2. Many of the Rickenbacker steel guitar design elements were carried on in to their electric guitar production, with each model having a typically distinctive look and sound.

This 1949 Rickenbacker SD-6 is a great example of the model from the first production year. The 'Steel Deluxe' Rickenbacker lap steel was introduced in the late 1940's as the companies first upmarket hollow body lap steel, and would feature in the Rickenbacker catalog until 1953 This SD-6 is in very good condition and really showcases the charm of this particular model. The steel pressed body is finished in a tan enamel, with contrasting dark brown hardware, headstock cover and finger plate. This lap steel is original throughout with the exception of a replacement Bill Lawrence pickup, which certainly captures the vintage tone of the original 1 1/4 horseshoe pickup the SD-6 would have come equipped with. 

This lapsteel has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty. This lapsteel is in very good all original condition and includes its original case.
