The Martin 00 17 traces its origins to the reintroduction of the Style 17 in 1922, marking Martin’s early adoption of steel string construction. By the mid 1940s, the model had become well regarded for its understated appearance and distinctive tonal character. This 1946 example is a strong representation of the period.
Constructed entirely from mahogany, the 00 body produces a focused, woody response with a dry, bluesy character while retaining clarity and articulation beyond what its size might suggest. The mid sized body offers impressive projection and balance, qualities that are often enhanced by decades of natural ageing and play.
This guitar retains the typical specifications associated with Style 17 models of the era, including the original rectangular bridge, tortoiseshell pickguard and open gear tuners. The tuner buttons have been replaced. There has been a previously repaired top crack, the bridge has been reglued in the past, and the nut is a later replacement. Otherwise this guitar is in good condition, with the sort of play wear and patina you would expect from an instrument of this age.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
