This 1946 Epiphone Blackstone is a fine example of a lesser seen vintage Epiphone archtop, showcasing the refined craftsmanship of the companies early New York period. Introduced in 1931 as a more affordable, smaller bodied jazz guitar at the time, this 1946 Blackstone is a fantastic example of a workhorse archtop guitar from the first part of the 20th century.

With a 16 3/8” wide body constructed from Maple back and sides with a carved Spruce top, the Blackstone has a balanced tone, with generous projection and a sound that perfectly encapsulates the music of the period. With the less common natural lacquer finished offered as an option from 1941 until the model was discontinued in 1950, this Blackstone features a single bound top, back, and fingerboard, with parallelogram inlays and the script Epiphone logo introduced in 1937.

This 1946 Epiphone Blackstone is in very good condition, with plenty of lacquer checking and patina, and a nicely figured piece of maple on the back. The pickguard has been replaced at some point, and a vintage adjustable De'Armond Rhythm Chief pickup and control plate added. The original bridge has been replaced at some point, and there has been some deterioration of the heel cap to the rear of the neck. Otherwise, this guitar is internally and externally original, and includes a period hard case.

This guitar has had a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop and includes a 2-year warranty for any set-up or repair work with our luthiers.
