The Gibson LG-2 was first introduced in 1942 and remained one of the few instruments Gibson produced throughout World War II. This 1942 Gibson LG-2 is an excellent example of a '40s Gibson, a period often regarded as the company's golden era for build quality and sound. Known as a 'banner' model, it features the iconic "Only a Gibson is good enough" headstock logo and is made with a Mahogany top, along with Mahogany back and sides, giving the sunburst finish a richer, redder tone compared to Spruce top models.

These guitars have scalloped X bracing and are lightly constructed, resulting in an extremely open and resonant tone. This particular LG-2 has been well-played over the years, contributing to its wonderfully responsive sound. The neck has a comfortable, rounded low-profile shape typical of models from this period, unlike the 'V' shaped necks found on pre-war instruments.

This guitar is in very good condition for an instrument of its age, with all the signs of play wear you would expect. There is plenty of lacquer checking to the top and back of the body, but no excessive play wear as such. It appears to have previously had a neck reset, but is otherwise free from repair work. It is internally and externally original with the exception of the saddle, which is newer.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
