A superb early example of the Epiphone FT-79, dating to 1942 and built prior to the model’s later rebranding as the Texan following Gibson’s acquisition. Produced during Epiphone’s New York era, this FT-79 reflects the brand’s commitment to fine tonewoods and craftsmanship, offered here in the original square shoulder dreadnought body size.
Constructed with a Walnut body and Spruce top, this FT-79 features a Cherry Hardwood neck and a bound Rosewood fingerboard adorned with large slotted block mother-of-pearl fret inlays. Fitted with Epiphone’s Exclusive Adjustable Truss Rod, this example is a true reflection of early American acoustic guitar design—elegant, refined, and built for serious performers. A rare find from a golden era of pre-war Epiphone production.
This guitar is in very good condition for its age, with the usual amount of lacquer wear and patina. Our luthiers gave this guitar some heat treatment to reduce some bellying behind the bridge, along with regluing the bridge itself. There has also previously been an additional piece of Maple fitted to reinforce the original bridge plate. It is otherwise free of any major repair work. Also included is a later period hard case.
This guitar has been given a full service & appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop. This guitar also includes a 2 year warranty.
