Introduced in 1934, the Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe is a jumbo, 12-fret flattop built for Hawaiian style playing and prized by collectors today for its huge, resonant sound. This 1935 example features a 16" round-shoulder body with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, X-bracing, and a lightweight build that delivers exceptional depth, warmth, and projection among the most powerful flat tops produced by Gibson in the 1930s.

Factory specs include a wide 2 1/4" Hawaiian neck with raised nut, ivoroid fret lines (no metal frets), heavier bracing than Spanish style Jumbos, single binding on top and back, original tiger stripe  pickguard, dot inlays, and a sunburst finish with silkscreened “Gibson” logo and model name on the peghead. As with all Stage Deluxes, converting it to Spanish style playability requires irreversible modifications (neck reset, narrowing/refinishing, fretting, and saddle rework) This guitar is mostly as an original Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe should be. The bridge has been slightly shaved to reduced the height and put it closer to Gibson flat top spec, increasing its playability. It has also been refretted, and we believe a newer maple bridge plate has been fitted at some point. There is one small side crack which has been professionally repaired, with a small amount of lacquer touch up also present around the repair. Otherwise it is original and repair or modification free.

As with all our vintage instruments, this guitar has been given a thorough service by the Vintage Instrument Workshop and is guaranteed for 2 years in line with our vintage instrument warranty.
