By 1935, the Gibson L-00 had become firmly established as one of Gibson’s most successful small body flat tops, valued for its mix of affordability, tone and playability. This 1935 Gibson L-00 is a fine example from the heart of Gibson’s pre war acoustic production.

The guitar features a 14 3/4" wide body with a spruce top finished in a wider sunburst than earlier models, paired with mahogany back and sides. Scalloped X bracing gives the L-00 a lively, responsive character, producing a warm, open and punchy voice that belies its compact size and works particularly well for blues and fingerstyle playing.

Typical appointments for the period include binding to the top only, a fire-striped tortoiseshell pickguard, rectangular bridge, and an unbound fingerboard with dot inlays. The mahogany neck features a comfortable V style profile, and the tapered headstock carries the white painted 'Gibson' script logo.

Displaying the honest play wear, patina and lacquer checking expected of a pre war instrument, this 1935 L-00 is free from any excessive upkeep or repair work, although the original saddle has been replaced and the saddle slot widened presumably as part of that process.

This guitar has been given a full service and appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
