Offered by Gibson from 1924 to 1938, the UB-1 is a compact ukulele banjo built with simplicity, clarity, and surprising volume in mind. With its 6" rim and short scale, it was one of the more entry level folk instruments offered by Gibson at the time, but still carries plenty of vintage charm.
This example is likely a pre-1930 model, distinguished by the painted "The Gibson" script on the headstock and the absence of later stencil branding. This UB-1 is well-preserved for its age, with the rim showing only minor wear and the resonator back in equally good shape.
Cosmetically, the original finish has held up well, with only light age-checking and some minor oxidation on the hardware. The bridge is the original maple block, and the original tuners are still functioning as they should.
This 1920's Gibson UB-1 is in very good condition for an instrument that is over 100 years old, showing only minor signs of play wear and patina to the finish on the headstock, rear of the neck and back of the body. The instrument has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
