Crafted in England by Clifford Essex & Son, we believe in the 1930s, the Regal five-string banjo was a mid-range model in the lineup of one of Britain’s most respected banjo makers. Operating from their workshop on Shaftesbury Avenue in London, the company produced a range of instruments from the early 1900s, with the Regal sitting above entry-level models like the Popular and Imperial, but below high-end designs such as the Paragon and Deluxe.
Period examples of the Regal typically featured top-tension construction, quality woodwork, and pearl inlays on the neck and resonator. Designed for traditional and classic banjo styles, instruments from this era are best suited to lighter, period-appropriate string setups rather than modern heavy-tension use.
This banjo is in very good condition, and retains a period case.
This banjo has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 1 year warranty.
