First introduced in 1937, the Gibson SJ-200 earned its title as the "King of the Flat-Tops" almost instantly. With its massive 17" lower bout, regal appointments, and monumental acoustic projection, the SJ-200 has commanded stages for nearly a century in the hands of music royalty - from Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan to Pete Townshend and Emmylou Harris. Handcrafted at Gibson's Bozeman, Montana facility, this 2008 example represents modern American luthiery at its absolute peak.

It features a solid Sitka Spruce soundboard backed by a spectacular, deeply figured flamed maple back and sides, finished in a rich Vintage Sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer.

As seen in the photos, this 2008 example is in exceptional, near-mint condition. Having been well preserved for nearly two decades, the nitrocellulose finish retains a deep, mirror-like shine, showing only faint surface swirling and minimal handling marks. The frets are in great shape, the neck is straight and all hardware retains a brilliant gold shine.

As with most of the J200's from this period, the glue that holds the pick guard is losing its adhesion. It's still adhered to the body but it does peel up on the edges from time to time. We are happy to replace the original pick guard at the customers request.

As with all our vintage instruments, this guitar has been given a thorough service by the Vintage Instrument Workshop and is guaranteed for 2 years in line with our vintage instrument warranty.
