1979 Wurlitzer 200-A

Few instruments have shaped the sound of modern music quite like the Wurlitzer 200 series electric piano. Heard on countless iconic records. From Supertramp, Pink Floyd, and Ray Charles to Queen and Steely Dan. Its distinct, 'barky' tone is an absolute staple of vintage keys history. This 1979 200-A represents the final, most refined evolution of the series, presented in exceptional, collector-grade original condition.

The "A" series update addressed the noise-floor limitations of earlier models by introducing an upgraded, heavily shielded internal amplifier and solid-state preamp circuit. Driven by a strike-action hammer mechanism hitting internal steel reeds, the 200-A delivers an extraordinarily dynamic acoustic voice. At lighter velocities, it serves up a sweet, bell-like chime; dig in, and the internal speakers break into that famous, aggressive tube-like "growl" that modern digital emulations still struggle to match. It features dual built-in onboard speakers, a classic variable Tremolo control, headphone/aux outputs, and a master volume knob.

Visually and mechanically, this 1979 example is an absolute knockout. The iconic molded black plastic shell is exceptionally clean, completely free of the cracks or major gouges so common on most of these units. The 64-note keybed is level, springy, and responsive under the fingers. Crucially for collectors and recording studios, this unit retains its original chrome sustain pedal and cable, as well as its original factory instruction manual and paperwork - provenance that is almost impossible to find preserved together. The only non original component is a replaced volume knob, but the original is included with the instrument (it has a hairline crack in, so to preserve it, its been replaced with a sympathetic repro)
