Introduced in 1960 as Gibson's flagship square shouldered acoustic alongside the J 200, the Hummingbird has remained one of the company's most recognisable and enduring acoustic models. Its distinctive styling and combination of spruce and mahogany construction have made it a favourite with players for generations, with early examples particularly sought after for their character and vintage tone.
This 1963 Gibson Hummingbird features a solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides, delivering the warm, balanced response associated with these early Hummingbirds. The ornate Hummingbird pickguard, split parallelogram fingerboard inlays and gold Kluson Deluxe tuners complete the classic specification, along with the original belly up plastic bridge and adjustable saddle.
This guitar is in very good condition, with play wear predominantly to the back of the instrument and the general signs of use expected of a guitar from this period. The top has previously undergone a crack repair, while additional work has been carried out to stabilise the original plastic bridge. Also included is the original chipboard Gibson case.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
