Introduced in 1951, the Fender Precision Bass revolutionised the electric bass guitar and quickly became the benchmark by which all others would be judged. By 1957, the model had adopted the now iconic split coil pickup and gold anodised aluminium pickguard, creating the specification that would define the classic late 1950s Precision Bass and shape the sound of countless recordings for decades to come.

This 1958 Fender Precision Bass is an excellent, all original example finished in its original Sunburst lacquer, showing the honest play wear and patina expected of a well used professional instrument. The finish has worn through to the wood in places, giving the bass the character that only decades of genuine use can produce. The maple neck features a great deal of lacquer checking and what appear to be cigarette burns, with the pencil date reading 10-58, while the body retains its original pencil date of 8-58. An interesting period detail is the additional dealer decal applied above the Fender logo on the headstock, advertising a music shop in Arkansas, which appears to date from the bass's early life.

This bass guitar is internally and externally original. The split coil pickup is untouched, retaining its original windings, while the wiring loom remains intact with the original potentiometers showing codes of 137825, and the correct paper box capacitor still in place. Original hardware includes the gold anodised aluminium pickguard, bridge and open gear tuners, all of which remain fully functional. Completing the package is the original Fender tweed hard case, making this a superb example of one of the most important and desirable vintage Precision Basses ever produced.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
