First introduced in 1960 serve as a top of the line model alongside the J-200, the Gibson Hummingbird has been one of the most played and sought after acoustic guitars of the last 50 years, remaining a constant in the Gibson catalog since its introduction. This 2001 Gibson Hummingbird Custom Shop Special was released as a limited edition, and takes the classic Hummingbird look and pairs it with AAA grade quilted Maple.
This Hummingbird Custom Shop Special pairs a antique natural stained Sitka Spruce top with beautifully figured quilted Maple back and sides, as opposed to the Mahogany that is the standard for Hummingbird models. The addition of Maple gives this Hummingbird a brighter overall sound with plenty of presence and projection, with beautiful clarity across the frequency range. Other features include the vintage style engraved celluloid pick guard with hummingbird motif, Grover Rotomatic tuners, split parallelogram pearl fingerboard inlays, and a belly up rosewood bridge.
This guitar is in excellent, all original condition, with only the most minor signs of play wear and patina to the finish. This guitar also includes its original hard case.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
