Introduced as a custom order instrument named the D-55 'TV Special' in 1968 before being added to the full catalog in 1974, the Guild D-55 was the companies top of the line dreadnought acoustic, designed to compete with guitars like the Martin D-28 at the time. Constructed from a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood back and sides, the D-55 paired this more polished, balanced sound with the typical workhorse nature fo Guild acoustics, offering excellent build quality that holds it own against Gibson and Martin acoustics of the time. This 1971 Guild D-55 'TV Special' was manufactured in the Westerly, Rhode Island factory and is in very good condition, and an excellent example of the value that can be found in vintage Guild guitars.
This D-55 TV Special has a beautiful top end response with a great deal of projection, along with a tight bass that works excellently for both strumming and finger style playing alike. The neck has a comfortable profile and is neither too slim nor too chunky, with a nicely worn back that signals years of playing. The classic understated Guild dreadnought look is finished off with open gear tuners, an Ebony fingerboard and Guild 'Chesterfield' head stock logo.
This guitar is in very good condition with the kind of play wear you would expect from an instrument of its age, and includes a hard case. It has had a previous neck reset and bridge re-glue, and is now playing and sounding as it should.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
