Nothing quite compares to the woody semi hollow tone of a '60s Gibson thinline, and this 1963 Gibson ES-335 is a great opportunity to get in to the vintage Gibson thin line market. With some changes having been undertaken over the years, this is likely one of the more affordable early '60s stop tail ES-335 models out there at the moment.
This guitar has had some changes over the years which are reflected in the price, although it is free of any structural repair work. This guitar had been with the same owner since 1973 before coming to us. The original sunburst finish is in good condition, with some obvious fade out and plenty of patina and checking to the body, headstock and neck. It is however free of any major play wear. The neck has benefitted from a refret, and at some point a set of Schaller tuners have been fitted.
The electronics are correct with the pots showing readable codes dating to the 33rd week of 1963. The body is fitted with a Patent No. hum bucker in the bridge position, and a PAF in the neck position. Unfortunately, both pickups have been rewound and extensively worked on over the years, with the PAF also having its pickup cover replaced. However, we can certainly say both pickups sound just as you would want them to, with a full voiced output that offers all the woody hollowbody tone you could want from a Gibson of this period. All other hardware is correct for the period, and this guitar retains its original yellow lined Gibson hard case.
This guitar has been given a full service & appraisal by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
