The Kay K-161 'Thin Twin' was introduced in 1952 as one of the companies more deluxe, top of the line instruments, as opposed to the student orientated catalog guitars which they are perhaps better known for. This example was manufactured under the Old Kraftsman brand name, one of a number of house brands Kay produced in the '50s and '60s. The body features a semi hollow non "f" hole design with a single cutaway, akin to the looks of a Les Paul but with both a larger and deeper body. These particular guitars, like their Harmony and Silvertone equivalents, have become more and more popular in recent years, and represent great value for money in the vintage market with a solid build quality and unique tone and style. Most often associated with blues musician Jimmy Reed, who was known for his use of a Thin Twin among a number of other catalog style guitars, the Thin Twin takes its name from the slim, blade like single coil pickups that are fitted to the body, with a unique tonal character that lend themselves to a variety of vintage voiced playing styles.

All hardware appears original, including the bakelite control knobs and vibrant tiger stripe pickguard. This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
