1966 Fender Electric XII

Introduced in 1965, the Fender Electric XII was the companies first 12 string electric guitar, and is a great example of a guitar designed to be a 12 string instrument from the outset, unlike other '60s 12 string guitars that were models adapted from 6 string equivalents.

This 1966 Fender Electric XII is a great example of the model. Designed by Leo Fender, the Electric XII had a number of unique features at the time. The 'Hockney stick' headstock design is arguably the most recognisable element of the guitar, with the body also being fitted with a set of split coil pickups more akin to a Precision Bass than the other single coil electric guitars made by the company at the time. The alder body features a 3 colour sunburst finish and has an offset style body inspired by the Jaguar and Jazzmaster. The neck has a comfortable mid '60s profile and features the neck binding and dot inlays used on the model from late '65 until mid '66. 

This guitar is in very good condition, and is original with the exception of a pickup cavity rout and replacement tortoiseshell style plastic pickguard. At some point the body appears to have been routed for hum buckers, but the original pickups have been reinstated and date to June of 1966. The original three colour sunburst finish only the most minor signs of play wear. The electronics are original and in perfect working order, with the pots dating to the 31st week of 1966. The heel of the neck shows a MAR 66 ink stamp. All other hardware appears original, and this guitar includes a non original hard case.
