Guild guitars from the '50s and '60s are often some of the most under appreciated guitars on the vintage market in our opinion, with the Hoboken, NJ made models making for some of the best quality, relatively affordable vintage instruments out there. This 1956 Guild CE-100 is a wonderful example of a '50s Guild arch top, with a tone and build quality that would rival the best vintage hollow body guitars of that period.
The CE-100 was originally intended to compete with the Gibson ES-175, with a 16" wide Maple body and Florentine cutaway design, and finished with a vintage style two tone sunburst. The best feature of these early Guild arch tops in our opinion is the amazing P90 style pickups made by the Franz company. These over wound single coil pickups have a wonderfully full sound with arguably more clarity than a Gibson P90, and plenty of bite when running through a pushed tube amp. Other features include the original Waverley tuners and the original 'G' logo tailpiece.
This guitar is in very good condition, with the kind of play wear and patina to the finish that would expect from a guitar of its age. The electronics, finish and hardware are all original and in full working order, and this guitar retains its original case.
