Introduced in 1955, the Gibson Les Paul Special is the epitome of the less is more design approach adopted by Gibson and Fender solid bodies in the mid '50s , with a tone and playability that makes them far more versatile than their simple design would have you believe. This 1974 Gibson Les Paul Special was released at the time as a limited edition reissue of the 1955 singlecut model, and was the first return to this single cutaway design after the SG body shape that was manufactured by the company up unitl 1971.
Featuring a slab Mahogany body, this guitar is in good condition with some obvious signs of play wear and patina to the finish. The original P90 pickups are present and correct, with a beautifully balanced sound with plenty of punch. The neck has a comfortably playable profile that is typical of the period. Our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop have repaired a headstock break, with the repair now barely visible and perfectly stable, along with some finish touch up to the area of repair and some particularly worn areas on the rear of the neck.
This guitar is internally and externally original, with the original hardware and electronics being fully functional. This guitar has benefitted from a service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 3 year warranty.
