Guild's hollow body electrics from the 1960s are some of the most finely crafted American guitars of the era, and this 1967 DE-400 Duane Eddy model is a standout example—particularly rare and distinctive among Guild’s full-body archtops. Built in Hoboken, NJ, in 1967, this DE-400 combines premium appointments with the bold style and tone that made it worthy of Duane Eddy’s name, yet remains a lesser-seen guitar compared to the more commonly found Starfire models of the time.
The DE-400 sits just beneath the high-end Guild X-500 in terms of spec, offering a large laminated maple body, carved spruce top, and bound neck and body. The rosewood fingerboard features traditional pearl block inlays, along with the Chesterfield headstock inlay. With its deep body, rich resonance, and deluxe styling, this 1967 DE-400 represents the tail end of Guild’s full-bodied archtop tradition before thinner designs took over.
This guitar is in excellent condition, with some patina and ageing to the lacquer, but very little play wear throughout. The electronics, finish and hardware are all original and in full working order, with the exception of the tailpiece, which has replaced what would have been a factory Bigsby vibrato. This guitar retains its original case.
