Few instruments match the woody, resonant tone of a 1960s Gibson thinline, and this 1964 ES-335 stands as a prime example of the coveted 'Clapton Spec' model. Built with the classic combination of a maple semi-hollow body and a mahogany neck, this version features the rarer factory stop tailpiece configuration—much less common than its trapeze counterpart.
This 1964 Gibson ES-335 is a fantastic example that has clearly been well played over the years, and sports the battle scars of countless gigs and studio sessions. The original Cherry finish remains in good condition, albeit with plenty of areas of play wear through to the wood enhancing its vintage vibe, and a small area of wood chip out to the rear of the body at the lower edge. The neck has been refretted, and a repro set of aged knobs added, along with a repro switch tip. The double ring Kluson tuners are correct for the period and appear original to the guitar. The bridge is a Faber aged replacement, with the original retained in the case, and the stop tail piece and pickguard are correct for the period.
Electronically, the guitar is fitted with a pair of Patent No. humbuckers that deliver the signature warm, articulate tone of early ES-335s. The loom, pots, switch and caps remain intact and untampered with. A non-original period hard case is included.
