The Martin Style 17 guitar was reintroduced to the Martin lineup in 1922, and was the companies first guitar to utilise the steel string design. These wartime all mahogany Martins are fantastic instruments, with a bluesy, rich sound that still retains plenty of clarity, and is far louder and more articulate than their small body size would let on.
This 1942 Martin 0-17 is a fantastic example of the quality and craftsmanship of Martin guitars from this period. The '0' body size was the smallest size in the range at the time, yet it has a tone and projection that belies its smaller size, with great clarity and plenty of warmth from the mahogany. This guitar features all the typical specifications found on style 17 models from this period, including the original rectangle bridge and dark tortoiseshell pick guard.
This guitar is in exceptional condition for an instrument of its age, with only the most minor play wear and patina to the finish. The neck is straight with a good angle, and does not appear to have ever been reset. As with the majority of Martins from this period, it is also incredibly light and lightly braced, adding to its resonance. This guitar is in all original condition, and has been given a full set up and service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop. This guitar also includes a period correct chipboard case and 3 year warranty.
