Constructed entirely from Mahogany, these compact four string instruments were designed to be tuned higher than a standard guitar, typically to A, D, G and C, corresponding to the middle four strings of a six string guitar when raised to Terz tuning. The result is a distinctive, bright voice with plenty of character, and a playing experience that feels quite different from a conventional acoustic.

This 1954 example is in good overall condition, with relatively little general play wear, although there is some concentrated wear around what appears to be a previously repaired crack near the lower edge strap button. The finish also appears to have been fully oversprayed with clear lacquer, and we suspect the neck has been reset and the bridge reseated at some point in the past. These are observations rather than confirmed details of the guitar's history, but the instrument remains a very enjoyable player.

It sounds excellent and is great fun to play, with the compact body and higher tuning giving it a character all of its own. The guitar comes complete with its original Martin chipboard case.

This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
